In winter, Aragats and neighboring Mount Ara turn into open, largely untracked snowfields that draw ski tourers looking for backcountry lines without lift infrastructure. A full day (around 8 hours) of guided touring runs from 20,000 AMD and is best done January through April, when snow cover is most reliable. This is serious backcountry terrain, so a guide and proper avalanche awareness are essential.
