Mount Aragats south summit climb

Aragatsotn

Aragats's south summit (3,888 m) is the most approachable of its four peaks, making it the classic choice for hikers who want a genuine high-alpine ascent without technical climbing. The trail sets off from Lake Kari at the foot of the mountain and climbs steadily over loose volcanic scree to a summit ridge with sweeping views across the Armenian highlands. Plan a full day — around 8 hours round trip — and go between July and September, when the route is clear of snow. It's free to hike, but bring layers, sturdy boots and plenty of water; the altitude and exposed terrain make this a serious undertaking even though no ropes or gear are required.

Vorotan Gorge hot-spring bathing

Syunik

Natural mineral hot springs sit beside the Devil's Bridge rock formation in the Vorotan Gorge, and a 1-hour soak here is free and available year-round regardless of season. It's one of the few genuinely free hot-spring experiences in Armenia, reached via a short footpath into the gorge.

Adventure

Eco-camping overnight (Tandzaver)

Syunik

This overnight stay at a community-run eco-camp in Tandzaver puts visitors in tents rather than a guesthouse, with proceeds supporting the local community running the site. Costing from 15,000 AMD and running May through October, it pairs naturally with the area's hiking and e-bike routes.

Traditional cooking / lavash baking class

A local host teaches visitors to bake lavash and prepare other Armenian dishes in a hands-on 2-hour class. Available year-round from 12,000 AMD, it's a practical way to take home a skill alongside a taste of Syunik's regional cooking.

Cultural

Pottery workshop & clay-dish meal (Sisian)

Syunik

In Sisian, a hands-on 2-hour ceramics session lets visitors shape their own pottery before sitting down to a traditional home-cooked meal, combining a craft workshop with genuine local hospitality. Available year-round from 10,000 AMD, it's a relaxed way to spend an afternoon between Syunik's more active outdoor activities.

Hiking

Hin Khot gorge trek

Syunik

This 5-hour trek leads to Old Khot, an abandoned village built into the cliffs of a gorge and left empty as residents relocated over the 20th century. Free to hike and best done May through October, it's one of Syunik's more remote and demanding hikes, rewarded by a genuinely atmospheric ghost village.
